ScanFont is unable to find the FontLab server application

Issue:

ScanFont cannot recognize FontLab Studio 5 or TypeTool 3 as a "FontLab Server" on Windows 10

Answer:

Instead of having a live link between ScanFont and the font editor app, use the VFB file format as an intermediary.

Open ScanFont 5

1. Click Tools / Options or ScanFont / Preferences.
2. Click Outline Font Editor. 
3. Enable Export outline font into VFB file.

Now, when you click File / Export / Outline Font and click OK, the app will ask you for a location of the VFB file to save. After you save the VFB, open it in FontLab Studio or TypeTool.
